Oakton Soccer Dedicates Last Game to Cancer Awareness

10/28/2022 12:44:00 PM

On Tuesday, October 25th, the Oakton Owls men's soccer team dedicated their last game of the season to cancer awareness. The pre-match program, attended by fans, Oakton staff, Oakton student athletes, as well as the Kishwaukee College men's soccer team, honored Owl soccer teammate Berkan Gondogdu who is currently undergoing chemotherapy.  A representative from the American Cancer Society spoke at the event, she discussed screenings and how early detection is imperative to a cure.  Oakton head coach Steve Brody encouraged the attendees to donate to the cause in Berkan's name.  During the game, the Owls wore white and purple jerseys and the Kishwaukee team wore purple arm bands to show their support. The lavender cancer ribbon on their jerseys represents all cancers. It was a deeply meaningful day for the Owls community.

If you've been impacted by cancer and would like to donate, please go to the American Cancer Society webpage, WWW.CANCER.ORG
