Coming off a 22-7 season and a game away from the sweet 16, the lady owls are returning two First Team All-Region players in
Nessa Walsh (St. Joseph, Westchester) and
Amy Campbell (HEM, WY). The team now has the confidence and feels that they belong and can compete with the top Juco teams in the country. Returning from injury is team leading scorer from last year,
Madison Dorband (Resurrection) who averaged 18 pts a game. The team was 12-1 last year before her injury.
Returning is a group of experienced sophomores in
Lanessa Williams (Taft),
Meryam Belbaz (Niles North), and
Alex Ponte (Glenbrook North) to go along with Academic All-American transfer from McHenry,
Niyah Udoiwod (Geneva).
Head Coach Tony Siriscevich Jr. is excited about the freshmen class led by former state champions
Jade Thomas (Maine West) and
Mia Buniao (Maine West) along with post player
Macey Gandee (Indian Trail, WI) and sharp shooter
Ellie Reynolds (Westosha Central, WI). Other freshmen expected to make big contributions this season are point guard
Jocelyn Muenster (East Leyden), wing
Kamila Gajkowska (Conant),
Lashylah Bowen (Evanston) and Maine East point guard
Rimata Halabi coming off two ACL surgeries and currently cleared for action.
Siriscevich stated that with now having a group of 7 experienced sophomores to go with the 8 freshmen the team will be ready to go come November 1st. "The girls put in work all summer and preseason and did everything that has been asked including everyone taking in person summer classes in order to be on campus and spend time together to create such an amazing atmosphere", says Siriscevich. The team is also excited to welcome new Assistant Coach,
Denise McCance, to help lead the team.
Siriscevich says, "The support from administration, the athletic department and training staff has been amazing and the structure, culture, and my system is now in place." With that said, he is excited to get started with this new group to see what they can do. The women compete in their first regular season match tomorrow night at home against Harry S. Truman College with a 5:00 PM tip-off.
