Postseason Recap:
For the fourth consecutive year, the Owls have punched their ticket to the 2022 Division III NJCAA World Series after sweeping nationally ranked Owens Community College in the Great Lakes District Championship last week. The team certainly fought to make it this far as they faced some tough losses throughout the conference season.
Heading into the postseason, they came in with an atypical 7-7 conference record and a .500 win percentage. Sitting as the fourth ranked team heading into Regionals, the Owls surprised many when they took down Region 4's top ranked Joliet to stay in the winner's bracket. They continued to find their footing all the way to the final day of the bracket where they took both games against College of DuPage to advance to Districts and claim the Region IV Division III Championship title.
The #7 seeded Owls (33-26-1) are one of only two unranked teams in the 8 team field competing for the national title. They will soon get to see how they stack up against the best in the country at
Pioneer Park in Greeneville, TN. The tournament begins on May 28
th and goes through June 1
st or 2
nd depending on the series outcomes. They will face some of the same opponents from last year including #4 seed and former national runner-up Niagara County Thunder Wolves as well as #2 seed Rowan College of South Jersey (Gloucester) who finished just ahead of Oakton's fourth place finish last year. The Owls are up against Rowan in their first game of the tournament on Saturday, May 28
th at 12 PM CST.
